The ultimate season is the 10-day Mysore Dasara festival (held in September or October, culminating on Vijayadashami). During this period, the palace exterior is illuminated every single night from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, classical music and dance programs are held in the palace courtyard, and the city streets are draped in festive lights. On Vijayadashami, the world-famous Jumboo Savari procession commences from the palace grounds, where the lead royal tusker carries the 750-kg Golden Howdah through the city to Bannimantap. Outside Dasara, the palace is illuminated every Sunday evening and on public holidays from 7:00 PM to 7:45 PM.
