Known in equal measure as the sacred spiritual heart of the Godavari River and India’s undisputed "Wine Capital," Nashik is a unique metropolis where deep Vedic antiquity meets contemporary viticulture and Sahyadri mountain adventure. Within the city perimeter, visitors can explore the ancient holy stepped bathing pools of Ramkund, the monumental 18th-century black basalt architecture of Kalaram Temple in Panchavati, and the 2,000-year-old rock-cut Buddhist monasteries of Pandavleni Caves, before transitioning to the world-class tasting rooms of Sula Vineyards and the scenic lakeside water sports of Gangapur Dam. For weekend trips beyond the city limits, smooth highways radiating into the Western Ghats and Deccan tablelands provide effortless access to sacred Jyotirlinga worship at Trimbakeshwar, the dramatic trekking heights and Jain caves of Anjaneri Hill (Hanuman’s legendary birthplace), the misty waterfalls of Igatpuri, the alpine reservoirs and waterfalls of Bhandardara, and the world-renowned saint pilgrimage of Shirdi Sai Baba.

Planning your day
Trimbakeshwar is located approximately 28 km southwest of central Nashik (CBS). The drive takes roughly 40 to 45 minutes along the well-paved four-lane State Highway SH 30. Frequent direct MSRTC state transport buses and red city buses run between Nashik Old CBS and Trimbakeshwar Bus Stand every 10 to 15 minutes from dawn until late evening, making it very accessible without a private car.
The prime period for wine tourism is during the annual grape-harvesting and crushing season from January through March, when vineyard trellises are laden with ripe grapes, active cellar crushing takes place, and grape-stomping sessions are open to visitors. For pleasant, cool outdoor weather and dining on terrace balconies, November to February is also ideal.
While geographically feasible by private car (Trimbakeshwar is 28 km southwest of Nashik, and Shirdi is 85 km east), doing both on the same day is physically exhausting due to temple queue wait times. It is far more rewarding to dedicate one full day to Trimbakeshwar and Anjaneri, and a separate day to Shirdi, allowing time to absorb rituals and avoid rushed travel.
Pandavleni Caves involves climbing approximately 300 well-built stone steps with railings, taking about 15 to 25 minutes of moderate walking. In contrast, Anjaneri Hill is a full mountain hike of about 1,000 stone steps ascending 500 vertical metres over 3.5 km, requiring 1.5 to 2 hours of uphill trekking. Pandavleni is a light cultural walk, whereas Anjaneri is a genuine outdoor trek.
