Thanjavur Trichy

Tiruchirappalli International Airport (TRZ), situated 5 km south of Trichy city center and 55 km west of Thanjavur, is a bustling air gateway with frequent international flights to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Sharjah, and Colombo, alongside domestic flights to Chennai and Bengaluru. Private tourist taxis are ideal for visiting the outlying Chola monument at Gangaikonda Cholapuram.

NH-83 connects Trichy to Thanjavur across a smooth 55 km four-lane highway (approx. 1 hour). Continuing northeast, NH-36 links Thanjavur through Kumbakonam (40 km) to Gangaikonda Cholapuram (another 35 km) in the fertile Cauvery Delta. From Chennai, NH-32 and NH-45 provide direct multi-lane driving southward via Viluppuram into Trichy (approx. 330 km, 5.5 hours) or via Panruti to Kumbakonam.

3 to 4 days allows a rewarding immersion in Chola and Dravidian heritage: 1 day in Trichy exploring the colossal 156-acre Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam and climbing the 437 steps of Rock Fort Temple; 1 to 2 days in Thanjavur marveling at the 66-meter vimana of Brihadeeswara Temple and touring the Maratha Palace; and 1 day in Kumbakonam visiting the UNESCO Great Living Chola temples of Darasuram and Gangaikonda Cholapuram.
