Biju Patnaik International Airport (BBI) in Bhubaneswar, roughly 100 km southwest of the Diamond Triangle, serves as the main flight gateway. Cuttack Junction (CTC, 70 km southwest) and Jajpur Keonjhar Road (JJKR, 45 km northwest) are the most convenient railheads on the main East Coast rail line, while Bhubaneswar Railway Station (BBS) handles long-distance express services.

Bhubaneswar is the most versatile base, offering wide hospitality options and direct proximity to Dhauli Shanti Stupa just 8 km south of the city. Cuttack provides a strategic mid-way base saving daily transit time along the northern corridor. Travelers focused on comprehensive architectural photography should stay at the OTDC Panthanivas in Ratnagiri or heritage lodgings near Chandikhole, allowing immediate access to the monastic remains before midday heat.

Hiring a private vehicle for the full day from Bhubaneswar or Cuttack is essential, as the monastic sites of Ratnagiri, Udayagiri, and Lalitgiri are spread across rural farmland and hillocks without dependable point-to-point public transit. Local auto-rickshaws operate from Chandikhole and Jajpur town, but round-trip arrangements must be negotiated in advance since return rides cannot be flagged down at isolated excavation grounds.

From Bhubaneswar, head northeast along the multi-lane NH-16 past Cuttack to the major junction town of Chandikhole (approx. 70 km). At Chandikhole, divert eastward onto NH-53 toward Paradip and follow signposted district roads leading directly to Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, and Ratnagiri. Dhauli lies on a distinct southern axis, easily reached via NH-316 south of Bhubaneswar.

2 to 3 days provides an unhurried itinerary: 1 day dedicated to Dhauli Shanti Stupa and Bhubaneswar's state archaeological museum, followed by 1 to 2 days exploring the Diamond Triangle monastic ruins of Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri, and Udayagiri.
