Rishikesh Haridwar

Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport (DED), situated approximately 20 km northwest of Rishikesh and 35 km north of Haridwar, is the primary air gateway with frequent non-stop domestic flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. Haridwar Junction (HW) is a premier Northern Railway terminus with direct Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, and Jan Shatabdi express trains from New Delhi; Yog Nagari Rishikesh (YNRK) and Rishikesh (RKSH) handle terminal train services directly within Rishikesh.

Tapovan and Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh form the wellness and adventure epicenter, offering yoga ashrams, boutique riverside stays, and organic cafes within walking distance of suspension bridges. Swarg Ashram and Parmarth Niketan on the eastern bank of the Ganga provide peaceful ashram accommodations centered around evening Ganga Aarti and walking paths to The Beatles Ashram. Har Ki Pauri and central Haridwar cater to traditional pilgrims focused on sacred river bathing and temple ropeways. Shivpuri, located 16 km upstream, provides riverside wilderness camps for river rafting enthusiasts.

Shared three-wheelers (Vikrams) and electric e-rickshaws run continuously along the main road connecting Haridwar, Rishikesh town, Tapovan, and the river bridges. Within Tapovan and Swarg Ashram, walking and rented scooters or motorbikes are the most practical transport choices due to pedestrianized ghat paths and footbridges. Private taxis are readily available through local taxi unions for journeys between Haridwar and Rishikesh (approx. 25 km) or excursions to Neer Garh waterfall and Shivpuri.

NH-334 serves as the primary multi-lane national corridor connecting Delhi via the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Roorkee, and Haridwar directly into Rishikesh (approx. 235 km, roughly 4.5 to 5 hours). Beyond Rishikesh, NH-7 and NH-34 climb into the Garhwal Himalayas toward Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and the high pilgrimage shrines.

3 to 4 days provides a balanced journey: 1 day in Haridwar for holy bathing at Har Ki Pauri, Mansa Devi temple ropeway, and the grand evening Ganga Aarti; 1 day in Rishikesh exploring Ram Jhula, Swarg Ashram, and Parmarth Niketan aarti; 1 day touring The Beatles Ashram and hiking to Neer Garh waterfall; and a final day for white-water rafting from Shivpuri or exploring Rajaji National Park.
