You check the forecast, see a rain symbol and wonder whether to cancel. Someone else sees a sunny photograph from last week and says the weather will be fine.
Neither gives you the whole picture for your dates. Use the forecast to check the plan you intend to follow, rather than judging the trip from a single icon.
Search for the actual place
Begin with your destination and dates. If your day includes an excursion somewhere else, check that area too. A forecast for the town where you sleep does not describe every stop on the itinerary.
Routeyst's visit weather tool can help with an initial check. For official information, the India Meteorological Department provides forecasts, warnings and nowcasts. Look for information covering the relevant place and period.
Connect the forecast to your activities
Consider which parts of the day depend on weather: a long outdoor walk, a viewpoint, a boat trip or a journey on a route that may be affected by conditions.
Check current operating and access information with the relevant operator or local authority. A weather forecast is not confirmation that an attraction is open or that a particular route can be used.
For an activity with specialist requirements, follow its official guidance and the qualified operator's current instructions. Do not use a general travel article or a weather score as the deciding safety check.
Have a change of plan you would enjoy
Choose an alternative before departure. It might be a museum, a shorter outing close to your stay, or time at the property. Check its opening arrangements too.
An alternative works best when it still suits the reason for the trip. If everyone wanted a relaxed break together, a quieter day may fit perfectly. If the trip only makes sense with one particular activity, review the booking conditions before committing.
Check again near departure
Read the latest update before leaving, and review it again when plans or conditions change. Pay attention to when information was issued and what area it covers.
Save the official information sources you will need, along with operator contact details. That is more useful than carrying a screenshot with no date or location attached.
Keep the plan flexible
Do not promise exact views, snowfall or perfect conditions when sharing an itinerary. Choose the trip for experiences you can plan responsibly, then adapt to the information available at the time.
